If you're a premium user, you'll have the ability to customize your overlay which is not only fun but also a great tool for exposing your sponsors and designing around an existing overlay that may already be present in your video stream.
This tutorial will walk you through how to design a custom overlay from scratch and how to use it for a stream event. You'll also learn how to update the overlay while the stream is live.
1. Uploading your logos
The first step is to upload any logo images you'd like to use in your custom overlay.
Go to Overlay Designer>Logos Library and click on "Upload a Logo" and select an image from your computer/phone. The image size must be under 1 MB. You can optimize the display of the logo in the overlay by designing or selecting a logo that will fit the best in these dimensions: 230px width and 80px height.
2. Creating your custom overlay
Next, go to the Overlay Designer>Custom Overlays page and click on "New Custom Overlay". Here you can choose the type of overlay items you want to display in each position.
Here is a table that represents the position fields:
Top Left | Top Center | Top Right |
Middle Left | Middle Right | |
Bottom Left | Bottom Center | Bottom Right |
And this table explains the different overlay item types you can choose from:
Overlay Item Type | Description |
- Nothing - | Do not display anything at this position. |
Single Logo | Display the selected logo. |
Multiple Logos | Display the list of selected logos, rotating through the list based on the given rotation period. |
Driver Box | Display the Driver Box which shows the current driver name, team name, lap number, lap times, etc. |
Gaps Box | Display the Gaps Box which shows the gaps behind and ahead, in overall and in class. |
Pits Box | Display the Pits Box which shows the number of pits and last pit lap. |
Local Time | Display the local time. |
Watch the short video for a quick example:
You can preview your design by clicking on the "Preview" button.
Click "Next" in the Overlay preview window to see what your design looks like with different backgrounds.
3. Updating your stream with a custom overlay
Once you created a design you're happy with, you can use it in any future or live stream events by clicking on "Update" under your event and selecting the custom overlay from the "Custom Overlay" dropdown field. If no custom overlay is selected, the default overlay will be used. You can update the overlay of a stream event at any time, even when the stream is live. If you update a custom overlay that is currently used in a live stream, it will be reflected in the live video within 20 seconds.
